PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk reproducing apparatus whereby a display time and a display mode of a sub video image can optionally be set as desired by a viewer and the viewer can view the sub video image at its won pace. SOLUTION: When the viewer uses an entry section 17 to set a caption display time, a caption display control section of a control section 16 stores the caption for a time set by the viewer even at the timing when the caption is substantially erased as its control. Further, the optical disk reproducing apparatus displays a source whose caption switching time is fast while shifting a display position of a succeeding caption so as not to overlap the succeeding caption on the present caption and temporarily stops the reproduction until the set display time elapses, or displays a future or past caption asynchronously with a main video image when receiving an instruction of the viewer even within the display time set by the viewer.
