PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera that can simply generate a synthetic image suitable for an object. SOLUTION: The digital camera has an image synthesis function for synthesizing a plurality of images. As a synthetic method (an image synthesis mode) in the image synthesis function, an 'addition synthesis mode' for simply adding a plurality of images and an 'average synthesis mode' for averaging a plurality of images are prepared. The 'addition synthesis mode' and 'average synthesis mode' suit relatively dark and bright objects, respectively. When the image synthesis function is to be activated, eigher image syntehsis mode is selected by a user. After a photographing instruction due to a shutter button, the selected image synthesis mode is judged (a step ST5), and synthetic processing corresponding to the image synthesis mode is made (steps ST6, ST7).
