TRAVEL MECHANISM FOR TAPE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel mechanism for a tape medium which can more exactly detect the erroneous detection of a wound-amount diameter, can prevent the damage on a magnetic recording tape by the plunge thereof into the terminal of the tape in the state of a high speed and can shorten the time for fast feeding/rewinding.

SOLUTION: The change in the wound-amount diameter is detected by means 12 for detecting the change in the wound-amount diameter and abnormality is discriminated by comparing the ratio of the detected change in the wound- amount diameter and the maximum value of the change in the wound-amount diameter detected till the previous time with the preset reference for comparison of the change in the wound-amount diameter, by which the accuracy of discriminating the erroneous detection of the wound-amount diameter can be improved, a deceleration point can be made nearer the terminal of the magnetic recording tape and the time for fast feeding/rewinding can be shortened.
