PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method and apparatus capable of forming an image in an excellent state by the use of a multi-value image forming apparatus and ensuring high productivity of dot images. SOLUTION: A pixel 2 with a narrow area is formed on the basis of image data obtained by comparing consecutive gradation image data with first dot threshold value data and a pixel 6 with a wide area is formed on the basis of image data obtained by comparing the consecutive gradation image data with second dot threshold value data alternately with the pixel 2 to eliminate excessive overlapping among the pixels and gaps among the pixels thereby obtaining an excellent dot image with a desired gradation.
