PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record, reproduce, and evaluate appropriately intrinsic information (UDI) of an optical disk medium by using arbitrary data. SOLUTION: A PN signal (pseudo random signal) is generated by a PN signal generator of a UDI encoder section 10 at the time of recording a UDI signal, this signal is write-controlled by a formatter, data are supplied to a disk recording device, and a disk recording device records the UDI signal in a CD. Also, at the time of reproduction of the UDI signal, UDI digital data obtained through a UDI detecting circuit (low-pass filter) from an RF signal (e.g. 3T single signal) from a disk reproducing device are stored in a data buffer, compared with write-data of the PN signal generator, and an error rate is measured by a bit error counter.
