PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic image layout apparatus for permitting how to lay out an image the long side or short side or which has a designated size or an image the area of which has a designated area so as to improve the nice to look at balance of images laid out in one page.

SOLUTION: The automatic image layout apparatus for fitting image data comprising y pixels in a longitudinal direction and x pixels in lateral direction to a layout frame set by a template, includes: a layout frame generating control section 12 for deciding the size of the layout frame by the length of the short side or the long side or the area of the image to be set so as to create the layout frame on the basis of the size while keeping the ratio of the length and width of the image; and an automatic layout control section 14 for automatically fitting the image data to the layout frame created by the layout frame generating control section 12.
