PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a lamp current of a light source device having a high intensity discharge lamp increases in regards to a lamp with low saturated lamp voltage. SOLUTION: The light source device comprises a discharge lamp with a pair of electrodes positioned facing each other, and a feeder system for starting the discharge lamp and supplying discharge current to the electrodes, which are connected together. The feeder system controls an electric current flowing through the discharge lamp so that it does not go over a current limiting value, and from directly after the discharge lamp is started until the discharge lamp is fully heated, the current limiting value is made a first limiting value, and after the discharge lamp is fully heated, the current limiting value is changed to a second limiting value which is smaller than the first.
