PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defective pixel detecting device for solid-state image pickup element that can correct the output of a solid-state image pickup element, by detecting defective pixels correspondingly to a two-pixel readout driving system also without increasing the capacity of a memory nor requiring any special driving device, and to provide a solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: The defective pixel detecting device is provided with a driving circuit 5 which generates a timing pulse, a control means 6 which switches the timing pulse to another timing pulse for reading out image pickup output signals at every two pixels when the light to the pixels is shielded, and a positional information generating means 12 which detects image pickup output signals at a peculiar level, by averaging image pickup output signals at every two pixels at least two times and generates detective pixel data indicating the information on the output level and positions of the two pixels which output the image pickup output signals at the peculiar level. The detecting device is also provided with a storing means 9 which stores defective pixel data and a correcting means 10 which corrects the image pickup output signals at the peculiar level by reading the defective pixel data from the storing means 9.
