PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve brightness rising characteristics of a center side of a glass tube of a cold-cathode discharge tube. SOLUTION: The cold-cathode discharge tube is provided with a glass tube (2), a pair of electrode assemblies (7) fixed at either end of the glass tube (2), a luminous layer (4) formed on the inside face of the glass tube (2), and a discharge gas sealed inside the glass tube (2), and a protruded part (3) protruding toward the inside of the glass tube is formed on an inner face (6) of the glass tube (2) between the pair of the electrode assemblies. An inner diameter is narrowed in the protruded part (3) for a current density to be increased and a tube wall temperature is raised comparatively quickly, so that mercury adherent on the tube wall of the protruded part (3) is quickly vaporized to improve the brightness rising characteristics.
