The support designed to receive a telephone (10) includes a circuit (38) for detecting the telephone in the support. This comprises a circuit supplying charging current to the battery of the mobile telephone. A resistance in this circuit provides a voltage across its terminals indicating the presence of a charging current, and hence the presence of the phone. The adaptor comprises a universal box and a specific remote support comprising a cradle designed to receive the telephone (10). The support includes a circuit (38) for detecting the placement of the telephone in the support. This comprises a converter stage (40) providing a controlled voltage (Vcharge) via a series diode (42). A resistance (44) is mounted in parallel with the diode in order to provide a voltage on its terminals which is a function of the current delivered. A threshold circuit (46,48,50,52) receives this voltage as its input and delivers an output which changes state according to whether or not current is being drawn by the presence of the telephone in the cradle.
