PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus for discriminating a color of an original in a proper area in the original so as to enhance the reliability of discriminating the color of the original. SOLUTION: This invention provides the color image processing apparatus for processing an image obtained by a scanning means 120 for scanning a target original, including: an original color discrimination area designation means 150a for designating an original color discrimination area being a plurality of area of the original; and an original discrimination means 153a for acquiring the result of scanning by the scanning means 120 for scanning the original color discrimination area and discriminating whether the original is a black/ white original or a color original on the basis of the scanning result.
