SCANNER USING PLATEN SCANNING AND SHEET FED SCANNING IN COMBINATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a substantially flatter paper path of a combination scanner which adopts platen scanning and sheet fed scanning in combination. SOLUTION: The combination scanner includes an auto feed mechanism 5 on the side of a sheet fed scanning unit 1. A document fed through the auto feeder mechanism 5 has its first surface imaged by an upper camera 23 and its 2nd surface imaged by a lower camera 24. A platen unit 2 is detachably dockable to the sheet fed scanning unit 1. When the lower camera 24 is moved from the side of the sheet fed scanning unit 1 to the side of the platen unit 2, a lower platen 22 provided in relation to the lower camera 24 is able to move retractably from the lower camera 24 and can avoid a drive roller 13 in the paper path.
