PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that is very convenient for reading a large amount of double-sided manuscripts and a method for controlling the image processing apparatus. SOLUTION: When both an added manuscript reading mode and a double- sided manuscript reading mode are specified, added manuscript reading operation is performed for back sides after added manuscript reading operation for front sides is finished. Hence the operation process can become smoother when the user processes a large amount of manuscripts to be read. Consequently, setting of a wrong manuscript set, a wrong operation of discriminating between the front and back sides, etc., can be reduced as much as possible. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
