<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a surround signal not to impart a sense of opposite phases, a sense of incongruity, and the like to a listener in the case of reproduction from stereo signals of two channels. <P>SOLUTION: The audio system is provided with: a non-correlation filter for extracting a signal component of a high correlation with an input signal Y of one channel from an input signal X of the other channel by dividing the input signal X of the other channel with multistage delay processors Z<SP>-1</SP>, superimposing a prescribed coefficient on respective outputs with coefficient processors W0, W1,..., Wk, and adding the results with an adder Σ; and a coefficient updating processor 5 for successively changing characteristics of the non- correlation filter on the basis of an error signal (e) resulting from its output signal RES and the input signal Y of one channel, and the input signal of the other channel.
