PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a correction method and correction apparatus for optical distortion that can simply correct optical distortion of digital image data denoting an object image photographed via an optical lens and decrease a memory capacity required for the correction. SOLUTION: A distortion correction section 24 divides image data after correction into four quadrant data 70A to 70D by x, y axes wherein a position corresponding to an optical center is used for the origin (base point), divides each inside of the quadrant data 70A to 70D into a plurality of paper-tablet areas 72 so that the width in the x axis direction becomes a prescribed number of processing pixels, and corrects the data in the unit of one line 74 (hereinafter called 'small line' in order to distinguish the one line 74 from one line in the entire image) by each paper-tablet area 72. Further, the correction order of the small lines 74 in each paper-tablet area 72 starts from the small lines 74 closer to the x axis and goes sequentially to a direction apart from the x axis.
