[Also in Division B1] A method for the continuous production of a dry double-base propellant comprises mixing together the two basic components with at least 25% by weight of water and kneading the mixture in an open trough screw kneader while applying heat to evaporate the water and gelatinize the propellant. The product may contain 40-70 parts by weight of nitrocellulose, 60-30 parts of nitroglycerine and up to 10% of plasticizer, stabilizer and/or moderator. An apparatus has a pair of counter-rotating intermeshing screws 2, 3, with ducts 8 in the screws and easing through which a heat-exchange, fluid can be passed. A modified apparatus, Fig. 4, has two lower counter-rotating screws 2, 3 and upper screws 10, 11, respectively engaging and co-rotating with screws 2, 3.
