PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-screen display apparatus capable of reducing the memory capacity of a storage means. SOLUTION: A line memory 72 interconnects an output of a composite circuit 68 to an SDRAM 48, the composite circuit 68 composes digital image data (YC data) given to an encoder 70 for display on a liquid crystal display apparatus and transferred from the SDRAM 48 with bit map data converted into the YC data by a table RAM 66, and a transfer path for transferring (returning) the digital image data (YC data) for indicating a state of superimposing the bit map data on an object image obtained by photographing to the SDRAM 48 as new digital image data.
