Electrical installation comprises: a container (12) with a gas-insulated functional unit (13); an escape path from the inside to the outside of the container for a gas flow due to an electrical arc in the container; and a porous layer (32) of non-combustible, solid granular material in the escape path and generating a dust cloud when the gas flow traverses the porous layer. Preferred Features: The solid granular material is a non-sintered, preferably friable material, and at least partially comprises porous grains of pumice, pozzolana or Siporex (TM). The layer (32) of granular material contains non-combustible solid dust to form the dust cloud. The gas escape path is closed by a sealing device (24) that opens automatically when it is subjected to a pressure difference above a predetermined threshold. The granular material layer is located downstream of the sealing device (24). The gas escape path is expanded by the sealing device (24), forming a gas expansion volume (26). The functional unit (13) comprises a high voltage unit.
