PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus for surely preventing illegitimate reproduction and illegitimate copy of an optical disk with a simpler configuration. SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus can reproduce both a first optical disk 1a capable of being recorded/reproduced by forward drive and a second optical disk 1b capable of being recorded/reproduced by reverse drive, a system controller 10 has a first recording and reproducing program whereby the first optical disk 1a is driven forward to record/reproduce data and a second recording and reproducing program whereby the second optical disk 1b is driven backward to record/reproduce data, when the optical disk 1 is loaded and reproduction is started, the information processing apparatus performs the reproduction by the first recording and reproducing program and the reproduction by the second recording and reproducing program to confirm a recording and reproducing program capable of reproducing data and allows the confirmed recording and reproducing program to reproduce the data.
