The motorised door of a railway vehicle comprises a door leaf (4) which fits in a bay (5) when closed by sliding longitudinally. The operating device comprises a suspension beam (17) with a transverse linear guide (13) comprising sliding runners fixed to it. An electric motor (6) is mounted on the beam. The door leaf longitudinal transmission system (16) comprises two pulleys connected to the motor output shaft and a belt connected to the door leaf. The motor output is connected to an articulation which enables a pre-specified transverse travel of the beam and can be rotationally locked to prevent the door moving in the closed position.
