PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for correcting colors of a plasma display panel by using a dynamic range extension method are provided to reduce a variation of colors and improve the contrast by converting an upper and a lower gray scale. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for correcting colors of a plasma display panel by using a dynamic range extension method includes a frame memory(50), a dynamic range controller(58), a plasma display panel driver(60), a lower and upper gray scale detector(56), and a motion detector(52). The frame memory(50) is used for storing motion picture data received from external input lines in frame units. The dynamic range controller(58) is used for extending dynamic ranges of motion picture data by means of the motion between the previous frame and the present frame and a minimum distribution gray scale. The plasma display panel driver(60) is used for controlling a correction data signal of an extended dynamic range. The lower and upper gray scale detector(56) is used for detecting the upper and the lower gray scales during one frame. The motion detector(52) is used for detecting the motion between the previous frame and the present frame. |
