APPARATUS FOR TRANSPORTING CONTAINERS

A method for storing and transporting containers is provided. The method includes arranging containers in a container store (101A, 101B) in one or more rows of stacks or partial stacks. Stacks or partial stacks are transported by engaging with one or more containers using a movable engagement means (19) that engages with the containers from their side. The engagement means (19) moves the containers next to the rows before moving them along the row to a required location for placement on a partial stack or on a support surface. Also provided is apparatus for transporting containers and a method of container handling that involves only removing and storing excess containers from a flow of containers in order to fulfil an order.
