In a device responsive to fuel viscosity for adjusting the maximum delivery top 16, Fig. 1, of a fuel metering pump control rod 14, the fuel flows from an inlet 32 past a pressure regulating valve 82 to an annular laminar flow restriction 52 and through a restriction 44 to an outlet 34, the pressure drop across restriction 52 serving to control the position of the stop 16. The valve 82 maintains a substantially constant pressure difference between the inlet and outlet pipes 32, 34, and in Fig. 1 the laminar flow path is formed by the clearance between spring-loaded piston 50 and its surrounding cylinder, the piston being connected to the stop 16 and being adjusted in accordance with the pressure difference betweeen chambers 36A, 36B, which pressure difference varies with the viscosity of the fuel. The piston loading spring 70 is adjustable by a screw-threaded abutment 74. In Fig. 2, the laminar flow restriction 172 is formed around a stationery cylindrical member 170 the axial position of which is adjustable by a screw 180 to vary the effective length of the restriction. The pressures in chambers 146A, 146B on opposite sides of the restriction actuate a diaphragm 197 connected by rod 195 to the fuel pump stop. In a modification member 170 and its surrounding surface are frusto-conical. |
