<p>A laminar flow, wet electrostatic precipitator (ESP) (20) with planar collecting electrodes (22) preferably made of membranes, such as a woven silica fiber. The collecting electrodes (22) are spaced close to planar discharge electrodes (24) to promote laminar flow (Re<2300). Charging electrodes (14) are positioned upstream of the wet ESP (20) to charge the particulate entering the wet ESP (20) to promote collection. The wet ESP (20) is preferably downstream from a conventional turbulent dry ESP (12) for collecting a substantial portion of the larger particulate in the gas stream (8) prior to the gas stream (8) entering the wet ESP (20).</p> |
