Disclosed is a device for handling individual flat, sheet-like objects or documents essentially in a horizontal plane. In order to precisely position the object that is to be handled while keeping the design of the guiding means and positioning means simple, the final section of a feeding device which is adjacent to an intermediate conveying device is configured such that said feeding device frictionally engages with the respective object or document, said object or document being movable in a horizontal direction perpendicular to the direction of conveyance of the feeding device in the final section thereof by means of a moving component while surmounting a certain frictional force. The intermediate conveying device runs in a horizontal plane at an angle ranging between 15 and 75 DEG to the direction of conveyance of the feeding device while engaging with the object or document in a conveying section which is adjacent to the feeding device such that said object or document cannot be moved horizontally in a direction that is perpendicular to the direction of conveyance of the intermediate conveying device by means of a moving component. However, the object or document can be moved in the plane thereof relative to conveying means of the intermediate conveying device along a horizontal plane located in a final section of the intermediate conveying device while surmounting certain frictional forces. The object or document then hits an angular stop arrangement at the end of the intermediate conveying device and independently takes in the processing position. The object or document is conveyed out of the processing station once processing is completed and the angular stop arrangement has been switched to a disabled position. |
