The invention relates to a device for optical data communication in the form of an optical switching matrix (10), comprising several optoelectronic interfaces (1, 2, 3, 4), which define optical inputs and/or optical outputs of the switching matrix (10) and an electronic matrix circuit (5) which links the electrical ends of the interfaces (1, 2, 3, 4) to each other in a selectable manner. The invention also relates to a method for operating a device for optical data communication in the form of an optical switching matrix (10), comprising several optoelectronic interfaces (1, 2, 3, 4) which define inputs/outputs and an electronic matrix circuit which optionally links the interfaces (1, 2, 3, 4) to each other. In order to create a device and a method for optical data transmission, which have said characteristics, allow for a considerably simpler and more compact design, are more simple and more flexible to handle and are therefore also significantly less expensive, the electronic matrix circuit (5) of said device represents a video signal switch (5) that is arranged on one board along with the optoelectronic interfaces (1, 2, 3, 4). According to the inventive method, a preferably programmable video signal switch is used as an electronic matrix circuit, which is connected in a direct manner or no more than via short printed circuit board paths to the optoelectronic interfaces. |
