<p>It is intended to provide a safe and highly efficacious antibacterial composition which is to be used in products mainly taken into the human or animal body or employed in the oral cavity such as foods and oral hygienic preparations without damaging the tastes of foods and drinks. The above composition contains gallocatechin gallate as a potentiator for antibacterial catechins. In particular, the antibacterial effects of the antibacterial catechins on bacteria causative of human decay such as Streptococcus mutans are enhanced thereby. The composition can be produced by mixing antibacterial catechins with gallocatechin gallate. Alternatively, it can be produced as a composition containing as the main component an adsorption fraction which is obtained by subjecting a solvent extract of tea leaves to adsorption by a synthetic adsorbent selected from among aromatic synthetic adsorbents and methacrylic synthetic adsorbents.</p> |
