The afterburner has a housing (1) with an entry for the process gas and an outlet for the cleaned gas, containing a number of heat exchange chambers (5), each filled with a heat exchange material and a combustion chamber (32) above the heat exchange chambers. A rotary slider (20) directs the process gas to a required heat exchange chamber and directs the cleaned gas to the outlet, its rotation provided by a drive motor (34) positioned above it.
