An encryption device (1) performs encryption and decryption for terminating security by encryption between personal computers (7 to 9) where encryption software is installed. For example, by connecting the encryption device (1) between terminals (2 to 4) where no encryption software is installed and the personal computers (7 to 9), it is possible to use encryption in an enterprise LAN having terminals (2 to 4) where dedicated encryption software cannot be installed. Thus, it is possible to build a secure network (10) where there is little danger of an unauthorized intrusion or attack to rob the LAN of its internal secret information.
