Disclosed is an optically variable element comprising partial surfaces which have achromatic surface structures and different diffusion, diffraction, and reflection properties. Said partial surfaces are combined with a thin-film structure, creating the impression of a defined, almost discrete change of colors to the observer during turning or tilting thereof rather than a continuous transition between colors.
