PURPOSE: A method for inputting a key by using a touch pad in a mobile communication terminal is provided to install the touch pad as a key input unit in the mobile communication terminal, and to input key data from a user through the touch pad, thereby quickly retrieving a menu and executing a specific function. CONSTITUTION: A controller of a mobile communication terminal senses on/off states of a folder or a flip, and decides whether the folder or the flip is open(S1). If so, the controller displays initial menus corresponding to user functions on a display(S2). The controller senses a signal generated from a touch pad driver by selecting a touch pad, and decides whether a touch pad signal is inputted(S3). If so, the controller decides whether the inputted signal is double-clicked(S4). If so, the controller converts a mode for performing a function of a selected menu, and executes the corresponding function(S5).
