OPTICAL COUPLER STRUCTURE

An optical coupler structure comprising a core region (14) for guiding a light signal (6) and at least one longitudinally repetitive, with respect to a light propagation direction in the core region, optical structure (mode coupling grating) disposed in the core region. The longitudinally repetitive optical structure (12) is transversely segmented, with respect to the light propagation direction, whereby in use, mode coupling occurs at the transversely segmented longitudinally repetitive optical structure (12) for filtering an incoming optical signal (6) propagating along the core region (14). The optical coupler structure preferably comprises an optical add/drop structure.
