A glass which essentially has a chemical composition in mole %: SiO2: 20 to 70%, TiO2 + Nb2O5 + SnO2 + Ta2O5 + WO3 + CeO2: 10 to 50 %, MgO + CaO + SrO + BaO + ZnO; 0 to 50%, B2O3 + Al2O3: 0 to 30 %, and has a specific resistance at 20°C of 10<15> ohm.cm or less; and a method for producing the glass, wherein the production is carried out under a condition wherein when Fe is present in the material, a redox represented by [Fe<2+>]/([Fe<2+>] + [Fe<3+>]) takes a value of 0.6 or greater.
