PURPOSE: A novel microorganism, Acetobacter xylinum KJ-1, and a method for producing bacterial cellulose using the same are provided. The novel microorganism has ethanol resistance, stability under agitation and improved bacterial cellulose productivity. CONSTITUTION: A novel microorganism, Acetobacter xylinum KJ-1(KCCM 10373), which has stability under agitation, and consequently has stable bacterial cellulose yield under agitation culture, is provided. A method for producing bacterial cellulose comprises inoculating Acetobacter xylinum KJ-1(KCCM 10373) to a bacterial cellulose producing medium, and culturing the microorganism in a flask or a jar fermenter with agitation.
