A method of producing flexible, flat decorative items for jewellery articles is described and comprises the steps of providing portions (2) of rope or chain of finite length, winding each portion (2) in a spiral to form spiral component elements (1), and stabilizing the spiral component of each element (1) by localized connection of adjacent portions of the spiral. Flexible, flat decorative items produced in the form of clothing articles or components such as cloths, tunics, ribbons, belts and the like, comprising spiral components (1) produced by the above-mentioned method, are also described.
