PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving a plasma display panel are provided to reduce the power consumption and improve the luminance by recycling the electric power without using an external capacitor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes the first sustain discharge unit(322), the second sustain discharge unit(324), and a charge and discharge unit(326). The first sustain discharge unit(322) is connected to the first electrode of a panel capacitor and between the first and the second power supply units in order to maintain the first electrode by the first and the second voltages. The second sustain discharge unit(324) is connected to the second electrode of the panel capacitor and between the first and the second power supply units in order to maintain the second electrode by the first and the second voltages. The charge and discharge unit(326) includes one or more inductors connected to the panel capacitor in order to store the electric energy.
