A method and apparatus of determining the significance of fold data differences between values of a plurality of variables in the data of a plurality of samples in a plurality of trials. The method includes the steps of calculating the inter-sample fold difference between the values of each variable for each trial of the plurality of trials; determining a relationship for the inter-sample fold differences; determining the deviation from the relationship of inter-sample fold differences for each fold difference; determining a measure of the set of deviations from the relationship of inter-sample fold differences; and determining limits to significance is response to the measure of the set of deviations.
