An optical amplifier includes a DFB laser (22) arranged on an n type InP substrate (10) for outputting control light, 3dB optical couplers (14, 16) arranged on the n type InP substrate (10) and having two input ports and two output ports, a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (12) having optical waveguides (24a, 24b) for optically connecting the output port of the 3dB optical coupler (14) to the input port of the 3dB optical coupler (16), and SOA (24a, 24b) arranged on the optical waveguides (24a, 24b), respectively.
