<p>The present invention is related to an in silico method for producing a set of promising variants of present-day and/or ancestral molecules, the method comprising the steps of:- comparing the sequence activity and/or structural features (such as hydrophobic plots, cysteine position or motifs present in said sequence) of a biological molecule of interest (X) with homologues of said biological molecule (X) of interest and/or a more recent common characterized ancestor(s) of said biological molecule (X) of interest and its homologue,- possibly using a phylogeny reconstruction method to compare one or more of said biological molecule (X) to its homologues and/or more recent common ancestors, - creating one or more variant(s) of said biological molecule of interest, its homologues and/or more recent common characterized ancestor(s),- and possibly testing the characteristics and/or activity of one or more of said variant(s).
