Apparatus for separating donated blood into fractions, e.g. erythrocytes, leucocytes, thrombocytes and plasma, comprises a hanging system in which part of the blood flows into a sample tube (3). The remainder flows from a storage bottle (4) through an optional leucocyte depletion filter (6) and then through a membrane bag mounted inside an outer bag (8). Plasma flows out of this through an optional second leucocyte depletion filter into a second storage bottle (13).
