PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus to engage a safety braking device for an elevator car assuring simple works for maintenance and capable of stopping the car only in case of emergency. SOLUTION: An actuating layer 8.2 to engage a safety braking wedge of the safety braking device is installed on a rotary shaft 8.1, has a slot 8.21 stretching in the longitudinal direction and sized identical to the diameter of the rotary shaft 8.1, and can move freely in the direction of the rotary shaft 8.1 and the direction of the actuating lever 8.2. A torsion spring 8.5 fixes the lever 8.2 in the direction of the rotary shaft 8.1. One end 8.51 of the spring pushes the lever 8.2 down, wherein the movement is limited by a lower abutment 8.6, while the other end 8.52 of the spring is coupled removably with a support 8.4. An upper abutment 8.7 limits the upward movement of the lever 8.2. The lever 8.2 facilitates the approach of the safety braking device to the safety braking wedge and precludes erroneous starting.
