PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for overlapping single plates one over another capable of transporting an upper and a lower plate in such a condition that their downstream end faces in the transporting direction are aligned up and down even though their specific gravities are different or the pneumatic resistance applied thereto is not constant. SOLUTION: Single plates W1 and W2 are overlapped by transporting them by a first belt 11 and a second belt 21 in such a way that the downstream end face in the transporting direction of the single plate W2 is preceding to the downstream end face in the transporting direction of the single plate W1 and transported by a third belt 35, and the downstream end face of the single plate W2 is abutted to the abutting surface 43b of a stopper 43a so that the plate W2 is stopped. The plate W1 is continued transported by the transporting force of the third belt 35, and the downstream end face of the single plate W1 is abutted on the abutting surface 43b of the stopper 43a, and thereby the plate W1 is stopped, and the two plates are overlapped with their end faces aligned up and down.
