PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refining process which increases efficiency of inclusion removal, degassing reaction, or the like, of a molten metal. SOLUTION: In the refining process, a dip tube 11 is dipped into the molten metal 13, and the ambient pressure above the molten metal inside the dip tube is increased and decreased to alternately perform suction and discharge of the molten metal into and from the dip tube 11. A swirling flow-providing means 21 is located inside the dip tube to provide a flow in a circumferential direction of the tube to the discharged molten metal and to feed gas to the molten metal inside the dip tube. When discharging the molten metal, the pressure inside the dip tube is preferably changed at a rate of≥100 kPa/s. Preferably, the diameter-length ratio of the swirling flow-providing means is 0.5-5.
