A reversible and rechargeable solid state electric cell comprises a Ag anode and a solid electrolyte of RbAg 4 I 5 which is free from all trace of impurity, and a cathode mix of molecular iodine and graphite which contains tetrabutyl-ammonium iodide as cathodic depolarizer. The anodic contact resistance is reduced by either amalgamating the Ag anode with mercury or by forming the anode by the electrolytic deposition of Ag on the surface of the solid electrolyte. The cells have a sandwich-type structure and the layers can be assembled to form a battery. |
