A turnbuckle specifically used to tension a cable securing a mast to the hull of a boat comprises a threaded rod 14 to be attached to the hull, a turn member 16 with a threaded passage 15 arranged to accept at least part of the threaded rod 14, a cable attachment 12, a bearing block 20 attached to the cable attachment, a bearing cap 18 having a bearing race 19 facing the bearing block 20, attached to the turn member 16 and a plurality of rotatable bearing elements 21 located between the bearing block 20 and the bearing cap 18. The tension of the turnbuckle is thus adjustable by movement of the turn member 16 along the threaded rod 14, with the bearing elements 21 providing relative rotation between the bearing block 20 and the bearing cap 18. The cable attachment 12 preferably extends through a passage in the bearing cap 18. The turnbuckle maybe provided with a scale to enable an operator to gain some identification of the tension in the cable. |
