<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent fixed image by reducing a temperature difference in the width direction of a heating rotating member made to press-contact a recording medium in a fixing device where an unfixed toner image carried on the recording medium is heated and melted so as to be fixed on the recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A heating roll 1 and a pressure roll 2 are arranged to press- contact each other, and an air blower 5 forming air flow in the axial direction of the roll 1, a duct 6 through which the air flow passes, and a guiding plate 7 guiding the air flow to the paper non-passing part of the roll 1 in the duct are respectively provided at positions opposed to both ends of the roll 1. When small size recording paper is fed to the press-contact part of the roll 1 and the roll 2, the air blower 5 is driven to guide the air flow to the paper non- passing part of the roll 1 from the duct by the plate 7. The velocity or the quantity of the air flow supplied into the duct is adjusted in accordance with the size of the recording paper, and air is made to blow off almost all the area of the paper non-passing part varied according to paper size. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
