PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter which prevents the occurrence of poor engaging with a ring gear even when the end face of a ring gear is damaged, and decreases the occurrence of poor starting of an engine. SOLUTION: A starter motor 11 is driven by an auxiliary rotation current flowing through a starter relay 3 and a suction coil 7 of a starter switch 6, a plunger 12 is sucked by the magnetic field of the suction coil 7 generated by the auxiliary rotation current. A pinion 14 is pushed out and fitted in a ring gear 15, and at the time when the pinion 14 and the ring gear 15 are fitted in each other, a moving contact 9 of the plunger 12 is connected to a fixed contact 10, the starter motor 11 is electrically connected to start an engine. In a so formed starter, a chamfering part 14b is formed on the tooth surface on the rotation direction side of the end face on the ring gear 15 side of the pinion 14. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
