摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of a high purity sponge titanium when the high purity sponge titanium and a low purity sponge titanium are manufactured by a Kroll method in a same plant. SOLUTION: Mixed fused material of unreacted Mg and MgCl<SB>2</SB>is sent to a separation tank 4 from a first reaction vessel 1 for manufacturing the low purity sponge titanium and a second reaction vessel 2 for manufacturing the high purity sponge titanium. In the separation tank 4, the mixed fused material is separated into the unreacted Mg and the MgCl<SB>2</SB>. The separated MgCl<SB>2</SB>is charged into an electrolytic cell 3 to form metallic Mg. The formed electrolyzed metallic Mg is used as a reducing agent in the manufacture of the low purity sponge titanium and the high purity sponge titanium. The separated unreacted Mg is used only as the reducing agent in the manufacture of the low purity sponge titanium. The quality of the metallic Mg formed at the electrolytic cell 3 is improved since the unreacted Mg having a high degree of contamination is not charged into the electrolytic cell 3. The quality of the high purity sponge titanium is improved by using the high quality metallic Mg as the reducing agent in the manufacture of the high purity sponge titanium. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
