<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thin optical film suitable as a film for a light transmitting layer of an optical recording medium, having high smoothness and reduced in the residual amount of a solvent and surface damage. <P>SOLUTION: The optical film is obtained by forming an amorphous thermoplastic resin composition, especially an aromatic polycarbonate into a film by a solution casting or coating method and simultaneously satisfies characteristics (a)-(d), that is, (a) the center line average roughness (Ra) of the film is 0.1-1 nm on both surfaces of the film, (b) the retardation of the film is 0-8 nm, (c) the residual amount of the solvent in the film is 0-0.4 wt.% and (d) the number of surface flaws of not smaller than 30 μm within a range of 1 cm<SP>2</SP>at an arbitrary point in the surface of the film is 0-50. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
