PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for industrially and advantageously producing the corresponding carbonyl compound by efficiently advancing a hydration reaction of an alkyne compound in aspects of the number of turns of a catalyst, yield and rate. SOLUTION: The process for producing the carbonyl compound comprises reacting the alkyne compound with water in the presence of a gold catalyst composed of an organogold complex compound and an acid in an organic solvent.
